When 16-year-old Jacob’s grandfather died. Jacob’s trying to fulfill his grandfather wish to find the “home of the peculiar children”. And when he finds them, he realizes that he has his own “peculiarity” that can save the whole home for peculiar children. Based on 2011’s New York Best Selling novel written by Ransom Riggs. This film is directed by the famous gothic style director, Tim Burton. Who appointed Hugo’s star Asa Butterfield as the lead.

The film starts with many vintage photos of the peculiar children. From the start, we know this film, has its own unique theme. The one Tim Burton always brings. Quite different from his 2012 film Dark Shadows, that got funny touches in it. This film even though has some funny dialogues, still left the audience with a dark feeling. Applause for Tim who is able to make his films with different kinda goth.

Eva Green is set to play as Miss Peregrine did a good job. While Samuel L. Jackson set as the film’s main villain. While the lead love interest, the peculiar girl who is lighter than air played by the girl with big eyes, Ella Purnell. The rest of the cast, able to bring their own “peculiar” ability outside the film.

Tim Burton is the perfect choice to direct this gothic film with his creepy touch everywhere. The music blends with a theme of the film. The characters and story actually not really for kids. But how Ransom brings out the characters into the novel and how Tim put it on visuals makes this gothic story able to be watched by kids.

From the first second of the film, the audiences could feel they are taken into another world. But, that’s just it. You get outta the cinema and you feel like you’ve been on an adventure. But, nothing’s there. Just some imaginative gothic style film that is not easy to make but with not many sparks in it. You watch it, it stays in your heart but not in a special place. Anyway, if you would want to go to an adventure, this film could bring your kids into an imaginative goth adventure! (Anna Rose)
